Board Meeting--The board will meet at 6:00p.m. on Tuesday at the Hallsville Market. Program--Guest Speakers were Andy Snider and Lynn Swanson from the Heartland Chatauqua. The Chatauqua began in 1870 in New York at Lake Chatauqua. It originally was intended to be a Sunday School Teacher gathering tolearn to be better teachers. They met during the summer to hear plays, music, and speakers. It grew in popularity to the point that it would last for the entire summer. It soon became a traveling troupe in which they would travel by train. One of their most notable speakers was Theodore Roosevelt. They remained very popular through the 1920's. However, it began to dwindle as movies and modern transportation increased. In the 1970's, interest in keeping it alive was renewed. The Heartland Chatauqua has 2 troupes which are endowed by the National Endowment for the Humanities. They have been in Columbia for the past week, with the 29th being their final show. Breakfast Drawing--Randy Griffith July 6 28 Attendees Reports were given: Board Meeting--They discussed the donated motorcyle. Election--Ron encouraged everyone to concider serving the club as an officer or as a board member. Elections will be coming up on August 3rd. In the future, we will have a nominating committee to assist with this process. Fundraising--The next big fundraiser for the club will be in September. We will have a Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays shoot at Cedar Creek Rod and Gun club. This was a great event last year and we hope it will be increasingly successful this year. Program--Ashley Wyer and Josh Spray accepted scholarship checks from the club. Ashley and Josh shared with the group the volunteer activities that they participated in during the past year as part of their "Serving to Learn" project. By completing 100 hours of service to their community, they became eligible for the scholarships. We are extremely proud of our scholarship winners and wish them the best of luck in their educational pursuits.
