The 7th & 8th grade team is having an outstanding season and are in the hunt for their first league championship. The 5th and 6th graders don't have quite as much experience, but are improving their play with every down. Big thanks to John Berkbuegler, Jeff Crane, JD McMorris, and Dennis Adkins for running and coaching the Optimist Youth Football League. Thanks also to Sherri Briedwell for organizing the concessions. MU FOOTBALL..The club is taking tickets again this year. We are having trouble coming up with 7 members to work the gate. There are 3 home games left. If you have not already, please sign up to take tickets at one of the remaining games to that we fulfill our obligation to the University. You can sign up by calling Kyle George, or at any Saturday morning meeting. BUILDING COMMITTEE...The building committee is still searching for a building site, and have a couple of prospects. However, if an member knows of 10-20 acres available in Hallsville, please let one of the building committee members know. BREAKFAST TEAMS...Breakfast teams have been reassigned. Check out the enclosed list to see what team you landed on. The member's name in bold is the Team Captain and is responsible for keeping your team organized. HALLOWEEN...Ted Bogucki and Jodi Wheeler are the co-chairs of the Halloween Committee. There are plans to create a haunted hay maze, have costume and pumpkin carving contests, and games. There will be a planning meeting at the Wheelers in the near future. If you want to be included in the planning and help scare up some more spooky ideas, please contact either chairperson. CASINO NIGHT...Casino Night has been scheduled for November 20th at the Hallsville Community Center. If you have donated items for the auction, please get them to Kyle George. Sign-up sheets for dealers, etc. will begin to circulate at Saturday morning meetings. COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS...The club has several standing committees. Some of these committees will be merged, as they appear to overlap in their duties. October is the beginning of the new Optimist year, so committee sheets will be passed around. Serving on an committee is a wonderful way to serve the club and community. Please give consideration to serving on one of the standing committees. OFFICER INSTALLATION...Officer installation will take place sometime in October or November. No specific date has been set. There is a current need for a vice president who can assume the roll of president starting in October of 2005. There are so many of you that would do an awesome job. Please carefully consider assuming this office. If you are interested and want details, please call Melinda Netemeyer. Fall is a very busy time of year for the Hallsville Optimist Club. We have many things going on. This is also and important time for our club, as we grow in numbers and look to build a new club house. It's important that we all stay involved in club activities, and continue to make the youth of our community our #1 priority. MEETINGS... October 16th, 2004 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 a.m. by 2003-2004 President Randy Griffith. Those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Jeff Crane led the group in prayer before a wonderful breakfast. We had many guests today. The treasurers report was given. Currently the club has over $13,000 in our building fund, over $4,000 in our checking account, and several hundred dollars in the football account. The finances are looking great! Randy Griffith installed the 2004-2005 officers. Kyle George, President; Melinda Netemeyer, Vice President; Sherri Briedwell, Secretary (in absentia); Ted Bogucki, Treasurer; John (Boo) Cathey, Board Member; Dennis Adkins, Board Member. Casino Night will be held on November 20th at the Hallsville Community Center. Please sign up to assist, or contact Angie George. If you would like to make a donation or know someone who would to the Casino Night Auction, please let Angie know. There will be a Halloween Hay Maze on October 30th & 31st at the Hallsville Fairgrounds. Please sign up to assist with this as we need a lot of people to help build the maze and work the event. A planning meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19th at the Wheeler residence. Football Ticket takers are DESPARETLY needed. The next game is October 23rd which is Homecoming. We need all the people we can get to sign up for this one. Please contact Kyle George to let him know if you can do it. If not, the calling committee will have to call everyone to get volunteers. Most likely we will not be doing this as a fundraiser next year because of the difficulty in getting enough people to assist at these games. It was announced that the Netemeyer family will be moving to the Columbia area in the near future. Because of this Melinda has asked that someone who will be a co-Vice President this year and ascend to the Presidency next year. The Netemeyers would still like to support the Hallsville Optimist Club, but recognize that the distance will hinder their availability to be at every meeting. If you are willing to accept this role, please let Melinda or Kyle know. Jeff Crane introduced the 7th & 8th grade football team and also announced that they had won the Columbia Youth Football Leagues 1st place honors for the season. Jeff reported that this was the first time EVER that a non-Columbia team has won. CONGRATULATIONS GUYS! Jeff introduced each player in attendance, gave a short bio of each young man, and announced the position(s) they played this past year. Their parents were in attendance to enjoy the moment! Jeff also introduced the coaches that were in attendance. Jeff thanked everyone for their support this year. A Blast from the Past... December 2001 |
