OPTIMIST MINUTES 8/16/2014 7:00am 8 members & 2 guests Old business: Per Kena and Sherri, the Back to School Bash organizers gave just under 500 bags of school supplies. The Optimist Club gave $500 to the group this year as donations were down. Thanks to Jane, Brent, Mike, Steve, and Chad who cooked and gave out 500 hot dogs and lemonade. Who wants to be our President? Term starts in October. Do you owe dues? Statements were emailed. Randy talked about getting a rifle for a gun raffle again. This will happen in the fall. New business: HOT – Practice starts this week. There are registration forms on our website if you know anyone interested in joining. Jane sent out information earlier in the week regarding the Food Bank’s upcoming 5K to benefit the Buddy Back program, on August 23rd. It will be an evening walk, beginning at 7:30pm. See attached flyer. At this time, more than 100 Hallsville children receive a Buddy Pack. Tionna Jackson, our 4th scholarship recipient, came to receive her check. She will be attending MU and made the cheerleading squad. Congratulations!! John Chance, from the Friends of Centralia Battlefield, spoke about their upcoming reenactment. The purpose of this organization is to preserve and maintain the battlefield site and to educate the public on the history of this Civil War battle. It will be on September 13 & 14. It will be quite the event! Please visit their website at www.centraliabattlefield.com for all information. They expect more than 5000 people, so go early! The only fee is for parking, $10 for both days. As part of this celebration, the Columbia Star Dinner Train will be “held up” by a couple of reenactment members (James Dixon of Hallsville is one) on September 6th and 7th.
